Metal Clay and Glass Book Submission
By donna | August 13, 2008
Metal Clay Ring with Just a Touch of Enamel
Front View of Pendant
Last year I was invited to submit some work for inclusion in a new book being published by Wardell Publications. This project was being put together by Maryann Devos who has written 2 other Metal Clay publications. The book will include pieces made by various artist across the world that are made using metal clay with glass or glass enamel inclusions.
The book is due for release in April at the Glass Expo in Vegas, so I am waiting patiently to see if either of my pieces have been included. Both pieces are a variation on the one designs which was one of the specifications that were required for the book.

Bronze Metal Clay
By donna | August 13, 2008
At the recent PMC Guild Conference in Purdue USA, the new and exciting new Bronze Metal Clay was launched. Most Metal Clay artists are very excited about this new addition to the Metal Clay range one of the main drawcards is the costs, bronze is less expensive than silver and gold. I haven’t had my hot little hands on it yet so stay tuned for the results of my bronze clay experiments - my order is jetting its way across the ocean as I type this post.
There has been HEAPS of discussion on this material on the Yahoo Metal Clay group with lots of mixed results. The Bronze Clay must be fired in a kiln with a longer firing time and it needs to be embedded in carbon materail and sealed in a stainless steel container. Sorry no torch firing for this Metal Clay.

Krafty Lady Art Moulds
By donna | August 13, 2008

Krafty Lady Art Moulds are made right here in Australia by Kristine Lockwood. The range of moulds manufactured is wide and varied in both designs and sizes. The smaller moulds are ideal for use with Metal Clay, Polymer and even resin. I have been using these moulds since I started working with metal clay and love them, so I can recommend the use of them. A small number of this range has been added to the Sympatica Silver shopping cart, if you are looking for a particular mould that I do not have listed it can be ordered for you.

Precious Metal Clay is an amazing product that allows you to create your own fine silver jewellery without the need for lots of specialised silversmithing tools. Metal Clay has the working consistency of clay, allowing you to roll it, mold it, or texture it in the clay form. When the clay is completely dried it is fired to at least 600 degrees celcius, the organic binders burn off and the silver particles sinter together the result is a piece of fine silver jewellery.
By joining this one day workshops you will learn all the basic techniques required to work with Metal Clay. Working with lump clay you will make your own unique piece of fine silver jewellery, typically a pendant, earrings or a simple linked bracelet.
